M.C. A.D.E.’s “Bass Mechanic” begins with Lisa saying, “Oliver, Oliver, darling. Call Mister Haynie, I think our speakers are blown.” “No, no Lisa. Call M.C. A.D.E.” “A.D.E. Dahrling, who’s A.D.E.?” Then new voice, “I’m your bass mechanic-chanic-chanic-chanic-chanic-chanic-chanic.” And then the booty-shaking beat starts. You’ve got to be dead not to want to move to the beat, the steady rhythm of bass. Everyone in the 80s knew this song.
America, I think our speakers are blown. We need a base mechanic. We need a bass mechanic.
Good news, we’ve got ’em.
Lately, the majority of political and social posts are laden with offense, bitterness and divisiveness. We need adjustment. We need to find our base and bass again.
Stop, wait a minute – let me put my base in it — the base or foundation of PEACE. If it doesn’t bring peace, don’t speak it, don’t write it, don’t express it with your face or body language.
“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]”. Philippians 4:6-7 AMP
As for the base or foundation of our country — let’s measure our political standards with the Constitution. A lot of confusion would instantly clear if we could do an instant download of Constitutional rights and protocol. Probably the majority of confusion in the political arena — for most people.
As for being in angst over the present spiritual climate? Stop, wait a minute, let me put my bass in it — the beat or bass of the unforced rhythm of grace. Grace is God’s supernatural ability infused into us to walk our purpose and journey on earth.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” (Matthew 11:20-30 MSG).
